We are working with a well-established manufacturing and distribution business in Thirsk to recruit a Health & Safety Support professional on a temporary basis to provide day-to-day operational safety support across a busy production and warehouse environment. The role focuses on maintaining high standards of site safety, promoting positive behaviours, supporting reporting processes, and assisting managers in delivering a safe and compliant workplace.
This position plays a key role in supporting on-site health and safety activity through visible presence across operational areas, routine inspections, employee engagement, and administrative support. The successful candidate will help drive continuous improvement in safety culture, housekeeping standards, and reporting accuracy while assisting with compliance and audit readiness.
Responsibilities
- Carry out regular safety walks across production, warehouse, and external yard areas, identifying unsafe conditions and behaviours and agreeing corrective actions with supervisors
- Monitor and support improvements in housekeeping and overall site standards
- Promote a strong culture of near miss and hazard reporting, supporting employees in completing reports and assisting with basic investigations
- Track and ensure completion of corrective and preventative actions, maintaining accurate records of incidents, hazards, and outcomes
- Maintain health and safety documentation, training records, and incident databases, ensuring information is accurate and up to date
- Support preparation for internal, customer, and regulatory audits, including maintaining compliance documentation and assisting managers during inspections
- Produce weekly and monthly safety reports and support communication of safety performance across site
- Deliver site inductions for new starters and support toolbox talks, safety communications, and awareness campaigns
- Carry out routine waste and environmental compliance checks, including segregation standards and documentation
- Maintain a visible on-site presence to reinforce safe working practices and escalate significant risks to management
- Support accident and incident investigations and assist with contractor control processes including sign-in and permit checks
Key Skills & Requirements
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial environment
- Strong communication skills with confidence engaging across all levels of the workforce
- Good organisational and administrative ability
- Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to challenge unsafe behaviour in a constructive and professional manner
- Practical, proactive, and solution-focused approach
