New Chapters is a family-run service that offers vulnerable adults and young people the opportunity to live independently but in a supported environment.
We are seeking experienced, highly skilled and empathetic support workers, and one senior support worker, to work with a service user in Bristol who has autism and displays challenging behaviour. They are newly transitioning from young persons to adult services. The service is likely to be located near the M5.

The roles
Responsibilities for support workers include:
- Encouraging the individual to participate in their chosen activity or follow their interests, which will involve assisting them in the community.
- Co-ordinating scheduled activities, using personalised rotas, liaising with others and ensuring facilitated activities and appointments are attended.
- Supporting, prompting and assisting with personal care as required, promoting independence during this, wherever possible.
- Assisting with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing and meal preparation.
- Implementing behaviour management strategies when necessary.
- Maintaining accurate records and taking a lead on developing care plans.
Responsibilities for senior support workers include the above, plus:
- Educating, informing, training and mentoring new/existing team members, at the request of the locality manager.
- Supervising the effective running of the service in the locality manager’s absence.
- Supporting the locality manager with auditing processes.
Types of contract
Shifts are typically up to 12 hours or 14 hours, working on a 2:1 basis, across Monday to Sunday, and we often require sleep-in shifts (which are paid extra).
For support workers, we have the following contracts available:
- 40 hours per week (daytime with the expectation that you complete at least one sleep per week).
- wake-night (overnight) shifts totalling 37.5 hours per week.
The senior post is a 40-hour-a-week contract.
Role requirements
- For support workers, we are seeking experience as a support worker in a complex care setting, working with people who have autism and experience mental health challenges.
- For senior support workers, we are seeking experience as a senior support worker in a complex care setting, with a proven ability to mentor teams.
- High levels of verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to remain calm, empathetic and level-headed in all situations and the confidence to maintain boundaries.
- Good basic numerical and IT skills.
- Ongoing commitment to your own personal development and training.
