Shifts: Days: 6:00am – 4:00pm / Nights: 4:30pm – 2:30am
Pay
Days: £19.00 – £21.00 per hour DOE
Nights: £23.70 – £25.70 per hour DOE
Plenty of overtime available.
The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced Manual Horizontal Borer to join a well-established heavy engineering business based in Ecclesfield, Sheffield.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist who enjoys working on large, complex components rather than repetitive batch work. The role will involve machining heavy castings, forgings and fabrications to tight tolerances, working from engineering drawings and carrying out self-inspection using precision measuring equipment.
You will be joining a stable engineering environment with a strong order book, a 4-day working week, overtime opportunities and long-term career potential.
The Role
As a Manual Horizontal Borer, you will be responsible for setting and operating horizontal boring machinery to machine large and complex components for heavy engineering applications.
The work will involve manual machining, boring, facing, drilling, tapping and working accurately to customer drawings and specifications. You will be expected to work independently, understand the full machining process and maintain high standards of accuracy, safety and quality.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone with experience as a Manual Horizontal Borer, Horizontal Boring Machinist, Floor Borer, Heavy Machinist or similar.
You should be confident reading engineering drawings, setting jobs independently, using measuring equipment and working to tight tolerances. Experience machining large components, castings, forgings or fabrications would be highly beneficial.
A background in heavy engineering, oil & gas, aerospace, nuclear, defence, steel, forging, fabrication or subcontract machining would be ideal.
Suitable Experience
- Manual horizontal boring or floor boring experience
- Experience machining large/heavy components
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Confident using bore mics, micrometers, verniers, plug gauges and other inspection equipment
- Experience working to tight tolerances and high-quality standards
- Comfortable using overhead cranes, slinging and lifting equipment
- Experience with materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, titanium, copper or similar
