About Us
Cardiff Veterinary Centre is a busy 24-hour, friendly small animal practice dedicated to delivering excellent clinical care and outstanding customer service. We are looking for a compassionate and reliable Veterinary Care Assistant to join our team on a part-time twilight and weekend and bank holiday basis.
The Role
As a Veterinary Care Assistant, you will support our Veterinary Surgeons and Registered Veterinary Nurses in the day-to-day running of the practice. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced environment, the ideal candidate must have previous veterinary care assistant experience.
Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Clinical Support
- Assist with inpatient care and monitoring
- Support with laboratory tasks and auxiliary nursing duties
- Assist with theatre and prep area set-up
- Provide support during euthanasia procedures (as directed)
- Ensure patients are clean, comfortable, and well cared for
Practice Operations & Hygiene
- Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic environment
- Clean wards, floors, and surfaces
- Wash and sterilise surgical instruments
- Launder and manage animal bedding
- Care for equipment and report any damage
Team Support
- Work closely with Veterinary Surgeons and Nurses
- Follow direction
- Participate in training and respond positively to feedback
Reception Support
- Answer phone calls and assist clients
- Book appointments
- Process payments
Customer Care
- Deliver compassionate care to patients and clients
- Booking follow-up appointments
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in a veterinary practice or animal care role is essential
- A genuine passion for animal welfare
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to stay calm under pressure
- Good attention to detail and time management
- Flexible and willing to learn
- Compassionate, caring, and professional attitude
Working Conditions
- Twilight/Weekend/bank holidays rota (hours discussed at interview)
- Fast-paced, physically active role (on your feet most of the day)
