We are seeking a Trainee Mechanical Plant Fitter (Field Based) to join a growing, employee-owned engineering company based in South Cumbria!
This is a field-based role working on specialist mobile concrete mixing equipment mounted on heavy vehicles, covering the South Lakes, North Lancashire, and surrounding areas.
This role will suit someone early in their engineering career – ideally with a completed apprenticeship or some hands-on experience in mechanical or plant environments – who is looking to develop specialist skills in hydraulics, heavy equipment, and fabrication/repair work.
Some basic welding experience (MIG and/or Stick) would be highly advantageous, as light fabrication and repair work forms part of the role.
Full training will be provided on the specific equipment.
This is a Full-Time, Permanent position!
What you’ll be Doing
- Service, maintain, and repair mobile concrete mixing equipment
- Assist with diagnosing and repairing mechanical and hydraulic faults
- Carry out basic welding and fabrication repairs (MIG and/or Stick) on worn or damaged components where required
- Learn to maintain and fault-find hydraulic systems including pumps, rams (cylinders), valves, hoses, and associated components
- Support planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and calibration work
- Attend breakdowns and reactive maintenance alongside experienced engineers
- Complete job reports and maintain service records
- Work safely across customer sites, with increasing independence as you develop
Hours
Monday-Friday, 7am-5pm
Pay
£30,000 per annum (negotiable depending on experience)
Overtime available, with additional allowances
Regular pay reviews and realistic OTE up to £45,000 once fully trained
Salary progression based on performance and development
Skills/Experience Required
- Engineering apprenticeship or some experience in mechanical, plant, or similar environment (essential)
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems, including hydraulics
- Some welding experience (MIG and/or Stick) is highly desirable
- Full UK driving licence
- Must be based within a commutable distance to LA5 (South Lakes / North Lancashire area)
- Willingness to learn and develop in a field-based role
