About Us
Downton Surgery is a busy, welcoming GP practice serving approximately 7,000 patients in the village of Downton and the surrounding rural area near Salisbury. With a team of 3–5 GPs and a dedicated, supportive staff, our in-house dispensary is central to the care we provide, dispensing directly to our registered patients. We are proud of the friendly, team-focused atmosphere we've built, and we're looking for someone who fits right in.
The Role
We are recruiting a Pharmacy Dispenser to join our dispensary team on either a full-time or part-time basis. This is a varied and fulfilling role, working directly with patients and colleagues to ensure the safe and accurate dispensing of medicines. You will be working with our Titan PMR system, and full training on this will be provided if needed.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Accurately dispensing acute and repeat prescriptions in line with legal requirements and practice protocols
- Issuing prescriptions and collecting patient charges or verifying exemptions
- Managing stock levels, including ordering, checking deliveries, and ensuring correct storage and refrigeration
- Handling controlled drugs in accordance with legislation and practice policy
- Ensuring safe disposal of returned or out-of-date medicines
- Maintaining accurate dispensary records and patient information
- Providing a friendly, helpful point of contact for patients with prescription queries
About You
You will be a calm, organised, and approachable person with a genuine care for patients. We are looking for someone with some experience in a dispensary or pharmacy setting, though we will consider candidates with the right attitude and willingness to learn.
- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services is preferred but not essential — we are happy to support the right candidate in working towards this qualification
- Good attention to detail and accuracy are essential
- Strong communication skills and a patient-focused approach
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a small, friendly team
