LXP Specialists are seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a small educational team based within an alternative provision in Warrington. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting teaching staff and enhancing the learning experience for students who are in KS3 and KS4, particularly those with special educational needs. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, making a positive impact on children's development and educational progress. The provision caters for learners who have barriers to learning and the school is looking for a professional who can engage hard to reach learners who may have experienced past trauma and find it difficult to attend a mainstream school.
Responsibilities
- Support class teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons tailored to individual student needs.
- Assist in the planning and organisation of learning activities, ensuring they meet curriculum standards.
- Provide targeted support to students with special educational needs, including those with social and emotional mental health difficulties
- Tutor and mentor students to promote their academic and personal development.
- Work directly with children, offering one-to-one or small group support to enhance understanding and participation.
- Implement behaviour management strategies in line with school policies to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Supervise students during lessons, breaks, and other school activities, ensuring their safety at all times.
- Contribute to the assessment and monitoring of student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as required.
Qualifications
- Experience or specialised training in special education or working with individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to work effectively with children, demonstrating patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.
- Prior experience in tutoring or mentoring students is advantageous.
- Knowledge of working with children who have suffered from trauma and are reluctant to learn is beneficial.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet diverse learner requirements.
- Relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or Level 4 HLTA equivalent are preferred

The role is to start early September 2026 and is expected to be on a part-time basis, either 5 mornings a week or 3 full days, these hours are still be to confirmed.

Pay: £15.00-£16.50 per hour
