Collection & Delivery Driver

We are looking for a reliable, customer-focused Collection & Delivery Driver to provide a safe, efficient and professional collection and delivery service across our retail network.
In this varied and rewarding role, you will collect donated goods and furniture from supporters’ homes, deliver stock and donations between our shops and other designated locations, and play a vital part in helping our retail operations generate income to support the Charity’s work.
You will be responsible for driving Charity vehicles and, where appropriate, your own vehicle, ensuring all collections and deliveries are completed safely, legally and in line with Charity policies and procedures.
As one of the Charity’s ambassadors, you will provide excellent customer service to donors, colleagues and members of the community, creating positive experiences that encourage ongoing support.
This is a bank position and shifts would be agreed on an as and when basis.
Physical Requirements: This role includes manual handling activities, frequent vehicle entry and exit, and the movement of goods. Key responsibilities include:
Collecting donated furniture, goods and stock from supporters and designated locations.
Delivering stock and donations between Charity shops and other sites as required.
Loading, unloading and handling items safely and efficiently.
Providing a courteous, professional and customer-focused service at all times.
Maintaining accurate records of collections and deliveries.
Ensuring vehicles are operated safely and kept clean and roadworthy.
Complying with all relevant legislation, health and safety requirements, and Charity policies.

To drive Charity vehicles and, where required, own vehicle to collect and deliver donated stock, furniture and other items between shops, warehouses and donor locations.
To load and unload goods safely, including heavy or bulky items such as furniture, in line with manual handling guidance.
To provide a professional, courteous and positive service when interacting with donors, customers, volunteers and colleagues, acting as an ambassador for the Charity.
To plan and follow efficient delivery and collection routes to ensure timely service and maximise productivity.
To support the smooth operation of the Charity’s retail services by ensuring shops are appropriately stocked through regular deliveries and collections.
To assist shop teams with the movement, organisation and storage of stock as required.
To carry out furniture collections from donors’ homes, ensuring items are of a saleable quality and meet the Charity’s acceptance criteria.
To complete all required documentation and records accurately, including collection notes, delivery logs and vehicle records.
To carry out daily vehicle checks (for both Charity and own vehicle use where applicable), ensuring roadworthiness and reporting any faults or concerns promptly.
To ensure vehicles are kept clean, secure and well-maintained at all times.
To adhere to all driving regulations, including road safety laws, driver hours (where applicable) and insurance requirements.
To comply with all relevant legislation, including Health & Safety, manual handling, and waste/carrier regulations where appropriate.
To support the safe handling and disposal of unsellable goods in accordance with Charity procedures.
To work collaboratively with shop managers, retail teams and volunteers to meet operational and income targets.
To assist with the set-up, movement or delivery of stock for events, promotions or new shop openings where required.
To ensure appropriate insurance cover is in place when using own vehicle for work purposes, in line with Charity requirements.
To report accidents, incidents or near misses promptly and in accordance with Charity procedures.
To maintain a valid UK driving licence and notify the Charity of any changes to driving status.
To undertake training relevant to the role, including manual handling, driver safety and safeguarding awareness.
To work flexibly, including occasional weekends or evenings, in line with the needs of the retail operation. Full, clean UK driving licence appropriate for the vehicles used.
Demonstrates accountability for safe and compliant vehicle operation and represents the Charity positively in the community.
The post holder will assist in ensuring the economical use and ordering of materials and equipment, maintaining an awareness of the need for good housekeeping, and helping to ensure expenditure is within budgetary limits.
The post holder will maintain strict confidentiality within the Hospice and ensure that all staff and volunteers under their management adhere to the Charity’s confidentiality guidelines.
The post holder will undertake any other duties which are consistent and relevant to the post.
The post holder will liaise with other services to ensure continuity of care, and to improve palliative care for patients in the community.

You must be sympathetic to and able to project the philosophy and concept of the Charity.
You will potentially have access to confidential data on staff and/or patients and/or services within the Hospice. Failure to maintain confidentiality and comply with the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR principles may lead to disciplinary action which could ultimately lead to dismissal.
You will be expected to produce work to a high standard and to always promote quality in all areas.
The managerial and clinical philosophy of the Charity is based on a multidisciplinary approach. Staff regardless of grade or discipline are required to participate in this concept.
You will be expected to keep yourself updated on all matters relating to Charity policies. You are responsible for familiarising yourself with matters relating to Health & Safety management as they affect you personally, your department and/or the Charity.
You will be expected to participate in regular 121/supervision meetings, and annual appraisals, for yourself and/or the staff you manage.
The post holder will be expected to abide by all legal requirements required for this post, including adhering to any relevant Codes of Conduct and principals, and being registered with any governing body required to legally practice.
