Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Activity Assistant to join our team in providing engaging and meaningful activities for residents in a care home setting. The successful candidate will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for our residents, many of whom may have dementia or Alzheimer's disease. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills in senior care and caregiving within a supportive environment.
Note: Maternity cover, 28 hours per week.
Duties
- Plan, organise, and facilitate a variety of recreational activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities
- Assist residents with participation in activities, ensuring they feel included and comfortable
- Support residents during outings or special events, ensuring their safety and enjoyment
- Maintain activity schedules and record participation levels for each resident
- Foster social interaction among residents to promote mental stimulation and emotional well-being
- Collaborate with care staff to identify individual needs and preferences, especially for those with dementia or Alzheimer's disease
- Ensure all activities adhere to health and safety regulations and organisational policies
Skills
- Previous experience in assisted living, nursing home environments, or senior care is highly desirable
- Knowledge of dementia care and Alzheimer’s care techniques is advantageous
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with residents, families, and team members
- Compassionate nature with a genuine interest in enhancing the lives of older adults
- Ability to organise engaging activities that cater to diverse needs and abilities
- Patience, flexibility, and excellent interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role
- Caregiving experience or background in a care home setting will be considered an asset
