Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Nursery Chef to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious and appealing meals suitable for young children, ensuring high standards of food safety and hygiene are maintained at all times. Duties
- Prepare and cook a variety of meals tailored to the dietary needs of children in the nursery setting
- Plan menus in accordance with nutritional guidelines and dietary restrictions
- Ensure all food is prepared in line with food safety standards and hygiene regulations
- Serve meals to children in a friendly and professional manner, promoting positive eating habits
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including washing up and sanitising surfaces
- Manage stock levels, order supplies as needed, and check for quality and freshness of ingredients
- Collaborate with nursery staff to accommodate special dietary requirements or allergies
- Keep accurate records of food temperatures, cleaning schedules, and safety checks
- Assist with planting and cultivating produce in our kitchen garden
Qualifications
- Proven experience in food preparation, cooking, or culinary roles, preferably within a childcare or nursery environment
- Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Experience in meal preparation suitable for young children or infants is desirable
- Previous experience working in a restaurant or catering setting is advantageous
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage time effectively during busy periods
- Excellent communication skills to work collaboratively with nursery staff and caregivers
- Basic understanding of serving techniques and customer service principles
- Must pass Enhanced DBS check
- Ideally Level 2 Food Hygiene
