About the Role
Citizens Advice Luton is a well-respected local charity with over 30 years’ experience of delivering free, independent and impartial information, advice and casework services which meet the changing needs of local residents. Our aims are to provide the independent, impartial, confidential and free advice people need for the problems they face and to improve the policies and practices that affect people’s lives.
We have grant funding from the Ministry of Justice to provide Finance, Benefit and Debt advice to male People on Probation in the Luton and Bedfordshire areas. The anticipated outcome is for People on Probation to achieve stable and lawful income with reduced debt and improved skills to manage finances. The role will involve giving advice through various channels including telephone, email and face to face which will include advice at the Probation offices in Luton and Bedfordshire. We are looking for a team member who is trained in debt advice or someone who is willing to undertake the necessary training. Previous advice knowledge would be an advantage.
The role is full time - 37 hours per week over 5 days (Monday to Friday).
Role Description
Assessing/Advice giving
- Provide casework covering the full range of financial, benefits and debt advice to male People on Probation.
- Assist clients with other related problems where they are an integral part of their case.
- Identify key information about the problem including time limits, key dates and requirements for urgent advice or action (using the CitA public website, scripts and any other diagnostic tools as necessary).
- Assess and agree the appropriate level of service, taking into consideration the client’s ability to take the next step themselves, the complexity of the problem and the organisation’s resources.
- Refer clients appropriately (both internally and externally) to suit clients’ needs following agreed protocols, including making arrangements and informing clients of what to expect.
- Research and explore options and implications so that clients can make informed decisions.
- Act for the client, where necessary, by form filling, conducting benefit checks, gathering information, negotiating, drafting or writing letters and telephoning.
- Negotiate with third parties as appropriate.
- Ensure income maximisation through take up of appropriate welfare benefits and financial capability strategies.
- Assist clients to make applications for charitable funds where appropriate.
- Maintain case records for the purpose of continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring and report preparation conforming to the Advice Quality Standard and the Specialist Quality Mark, as appropriate.
- Assess client’s problem(s) using sensitive listening and questioning skills, signpost clients appropriately to suit their needs, following agreed protocols.
Pay: £24,925.00-£27,500.00 per year
