Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Nursery Cook to prepare nutritious and appealing meals for children in our nursery setting, who has knowledge of Setting the Table Guidance. The ideal candidate will have experience in food preparation and cooking, with a strong focus on food safety and hygiene standards. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing and development of young children through healthy meal provision. The Nursery Cook will work closely with nursery staff to ensure all dietary requirements are met, creating a warm and welcoming environment for our little learners.
Working Hours - 9.30am-2.30pm
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals suitable for children, ensuring nutritional value and variety
- Follow approved menus and adapt recipes as necessary to accommodate dietary restrictions or allergies
- Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene in all aspects of food preparation and storage
- Ensure all kitchen equipment is clean, well-maintained, and used safely
- Assist with ordering supplies and managing stock levels to ensure the kitchen runs efficiently
- Collaborate with nursery staff to plan meal schedules that align with daily routines
- Record temperature checks and monitor food quality throughout the preparation process
- Serve meals in a friendly manner, promoting positive eating experiences for children
Skills
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking, ideally within a childcare or nursery environment
- Strong understanding of food safety regulations and hygiene practices
- Knowledge of meal preparation suitable for young children’s dietary needs
- Experience working in a kitchen setting, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and communicate effectively with colleagues and children
- Flexibility to adapt recipes based on dietary requirements or special occasions
