Ocean Infinity is seeking a HSEQ Advisor for our Solutions business unit to provide health, safety, environment and quality support across Ocean Infinity's Solutions portfolio — a growing business unit that designs, integrates, and delivers bespoke autonomous and remote systems for clients across defence, government, and commercial sectors.
Solutions delivery involves novel system configurations, compressed timelines, and sovereign or defence customers with non-negotiable assurance expectations. Decisions about whether a system is safe to operate, sell, and stand behind are taken early — at bid, design, and readiness stages. Therefore, this role is focused on front-loaded assurance: engaging at the decision points that matter most — bid, design review, system acceptability, operational readiness, and client acceptance — and ensuring that safety and assurance decisions are tangible, evidence-based, and externally defensible.
What you will do:
Project-Level Assurance & Safety Support
-
Engage at defined decision points across the Solutions lifecycle: bid, design review, readiness, acceptance, and mobilisation.
-
Apply the Safe-to-Operate assurance criteria defined by the HSEQ Solutions Lead to assigned projects — identifying gaps, gathering evidence, and flagging risks.
-
Clarify what assurance evidence is required, proportionate to the client, regulator, or internal audience.
-
Support leaders to make and record risk acceptance decisions with appropriate evidence.
-
Prepare and maintain assurance evidence to support external scrutiny — including client acceptance reviews, regulatory submissions, and audit readiness.
-
Attend and contribute to design reviews, HAZID workshops, and readiness assessments.
-
Prepare project-level assurance evidence packs for client and internal acceptance.
-
Conduct site visits, inspections, and audits at integration facilities and operational locations.
-
Maintain project HSEQ documentation — risk registers, assurance logs, incident records.
System Assurance & Operational Readiness
-
Support the development and application of Safe-to-Operate assurance for Solutions projects — defining what must be demonstrated before a system is accepted as safe to operate, deliver to a client, or deploy in a live environment.
-
Apply readiness and mobilisation criteria consistently across Solutions projects — replacing execution-phase controls with operational readiness checks.
-
Ensure design-to-operations evidence continuity: design review outputs, FMEA, and assumptions are visible and traceable to downstream operational teams via PDM.
-
Work with engineering teams to ensure quality and system assurance is designed in, not inspected late.
IMS & Compliance
-
Apply the Group IMS proportionately to the unique needs of the Solutions business unit reality.
-
Stay current with legal, regulatory, and client-specific HSEQ requirements relevant to Solutions — including defence, sovereign, and export-controlled environments.
-
Coordinate HSEQ inspections and audits of owned, leased, and client assets as required.
Stakeholder Engagement
-
Act as a primary HSEQ interface for Solutions project teams — providing focused input aligned to delivery pace and context.
-
Facilitate coordination with Solutions commercial, engineering, and operations teams to ensure alignment on HSEQ priorities.
-
Provide practical feedback to the HSEQ Solutions Lead on how frameworks and criteria perform in project delivery — identifying what works, what doesn't, and what needs adapting.
-
Oversee risk assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analyses within Solutions projects, ensuring lessons learned are shared and integrated.
Security Clearance & Export Controls
This role involves access to UK Government / UK MoD customer information and export-controlled data. Appointment is subject to candidates being eligible for and able to obtain/hold UKSV Security Check (SC) clearance, as required by contract, and to ongoing compliance with information security obligations and export controls (including ITAR, where applicable). DV clearance eligibility is highly desirable. Candidates must be sole UK nationals for security clearance purposes.
Desirable:
- Experience in HSEQ advisory or assurance roles within defence, maritime, aerospace, or complex engineering environments.
-
Strong understanding of system-level assurance, engineering acceptability, and readiness/mobilisation frameworks.
-
Experience working with design evidence, FMEA, and configuration-controlled environments.
-
Comfortable operating in fast-paced, start-up-like delivery environments with compressed decision timelines.
-
Knowledge of relevant ISO standards (9001, 45001, 14001) and their practical application.
-
Understanding of defence and sovereign customer assurance expectations (e.g. UK MoD, export controls, ITAR).
-
NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent.
-
Further qualifications in quality or systems assurance desirable.
-
Eligible for and able to obtain UKSV SC clearance (DV desirable); sole UK national required.
-
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills — able to challenge constructively at senior levels.
