Post Title: Nursery Educator
Responsible to: Nursery Manager
Hours: 40 hours per week over 4 days (7:30am–6:00pm)
Location: Charity-run Nursery, Filey
Room: Babies
Qualifications: Level 3 childcare qualification preferred
Purpose of the Role
To work as part of our caring, committed team to provide the highest standard of early education and childcare for children aged 0–5. The Nursery Educator will contribute to a safe, stimulating environment where children can grow, explore and thrive.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Childcare & Education
- Provide high-quality care and learning opportunities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and all relevant legislation.
- Implement, observe, assess, and evaluate a programme of age-appropriate activities to support each child’s development.
- Take responsibility for a group of key children, maintaining accurate observations, assessments, and learning records.
- Ensure children’s individual needs, including dietary, medical, emotional, and developmental needs, are met at all times.
Safeguarding, Health & Safety
- Maintain a safe, clean, and secure environment, following nursery policies, risk assessments, and safeguarding procedures.
- Promote and uphold high standards of hygiene, safety, and infection control.
- Ensure confidentiality regarding children, families, and the nursery at all times.
Inclusion & Special Educational Needs
- Identify and support children with potential SEND needs, adapting practice appropriately.
- Work collaboratively with parents, external agencies, and colleagues to ensure the full inclusion of all children.
Teamwork & Professionalism
- Work positively and flexibly as part of the team, sharing ideas and supporting colleagues.
- Undertake domestic tasks as required, including preparing snack, laundry, cleaning equipment, or assisting in other rooms.
- Attend all staff meetings, training sessions, events, and occasional out-of-hours nursery activities.
- Uphold the high profile and ethos of the nursery and act as a positive ambassador within the community.
Family Partnerships
- Build strong, respectful relationships with parents/carers, keeping them informed of their child’s development.
- Work in partnership with families to ensure consistent support for every child.
General Responsibilities
- Carry out duties in line with nursery policies and contribute to ongoing improvements.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably required to ensure the effective running of the setting.
