South East Fabricators Ltd (SEFAB) is a family-owned and operated business specialising in the manufacture of flashings, trims, gutters and associated products for the roofing and cladding industry. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Trainee Sheet Metal Fabricator / CNC Press Brake Operator to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start a career in the sheet metal fabrication industry, develop practical skills and learn from an experienced and supportive team.
This position may be particularly suitable for a school or college leaver looking to begin a career in engineering and manufacturing. No previous fabrication experience is required, as full training will be provided. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, practical aptitude and a willingness to learn and develop new skills within a supportive working environment.
Key Responsibilities
The role will include, but not be limited to:
- Operating and setting CNC press brakes to bend and form sheet metal components to specification.
- Setting and operating mechanical guillotines to cut sheet metal to required sizes.
- Using a variety of hand tools, including grinders, drills and jigsaws, in the fabrication process.
- Manufacturing components in accordance with engineering drawings and customer specifications.
- Applying basic mathematical calculations to determine dimensions, angles and tolerances.
- Working accurately from technical drawings and instructions provided by supervisors.
- Supporting colleagues to maintain efficient workflow and achieve production targets.
- Assisting with dispatch preparation, loading and other operational activities when required.
- Carrying out personal quality checks and making adjustments where necessary.
- Completing production records and associated paperwork.
- Maintaining tools and equipment to ensure they remain in good working condition.
- Adhering to company health, safety and operating procedures at all times.
- Contributing to a clean, organised and safe workshop environment.
Skills, Experience and Attributes
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- A genuine interest in developing a career within the sheet metal fabrication industry.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn new skills.
- GCSE Mathematics Grade 4 (or equivalent) or above.
- Good practical ability and an aptitude for producing high-quality workmanship.
- Confidence using hand tools or experience in practical, hands-on activities.
- The ability to read and interpret technical drawings, or a willingness to learn.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately to deadlines.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A full UK driving licence and access to your own transport due to our workshop location.
Previous fabrication or engineering experience is not essential. This role would suit a school or college leaver, or someone looking to start a new career in manufacturing. Full training will be provided, and we are keen to hear from applicants who can demonstrate enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to learn.
Working Hours
- Monday to Thursday: 8:00am – 5:00pm
- Friday: 8:00am – 4:30pm
