Job Title: Equine Trainer Coach (Assessor / Tutor)
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours p/w
Salary: £26,000.00 - £33,000.00 per annum

The Equine Trainer Coach is responsible for managing a defined caseload of apprentices/learners, delivering high-quality training, assessment and coaching within the equine sector. The role ensures learners are supported throughout their full learner journey, achieve positive outcomes, and that all delivery, assessment and recording meets awarding body, funding, safeguarding and quality assurance requirements.
The post holder is accountable for maintaining strong relationships with employers, ensuring training is relevant to workplace practice, and upholding high standards of animal welfare, health & safety, and professional conduct.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
1. Learner Caseload Management
Accountable for: learner progress, retention, achievement and timely completion.
· Manage a designated caseload of learners across assigned geographic area.
· Plan, deliver and review individual learning plans aligned to apprenticeship standards.
· Conduct enrolment, induction, initial assessment and regular progress reviews.
· Identify learners at risk and implement timely interventions.
· Support learners through gateway and End-Point Assessment preparation.
2. Teaching, Training, Coaching and Assessment
Accountable for: high-quality teaching, assessment validity and learner competence.
· Deliver practical and theoretical equine training aligned to standards and employer needs.
· Coach and mentor learners to develop technical competence, confidence and professional behaviours.
· Observe learners in the workplace and provide clear, constructive, developmental feedback.
· Assess learner evidence accurately and in line with awarding body requirements.
· Deliver and support Functional Skills English and Maths where required.
3. Employer Engagement and Workplace Standards
Accountable for: effective employer relationships and high-quality workplace learning environments.
· Build and maintain positive professional relationships with employers.
· Ensure employers understand programme requirements, roles and learner expectations.
· Work with employers to align training plans with workplace duties.
· Promote and monitor best practice in equine welfare, safe working and professional standards in the workplace.
4. Quality Assurance, Compliance and Documentation
Accountable for: audit readiness, funding compliance and accurate records.
· Complete and maintain all learner documentation accurately and on time.
· Ensure evidence meets funding, Ofsted and awarding body requirements.
· Participate fully in IQA activity, standardisation and quality improvement processes.
· Act on feedback from IQA and management to continuously improve practice.
5. Safeguarding, Welfare and Professional Conduct
Accountable for: learner safety, wellbeing and adherence to safeguarding procedures.
· Act as a role model for professional behaviour and ethical practice.
· Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding and welfare concerns.
· Promote British Values, Prevent, equality, diversity and inclusion.
· Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
6. Continuous Professional Development
Accountable for: maintaining occupational and teaching competence.
· Maintain up-to-date industry knowledge and occupational competence.
· Engage in CPD related to equine practice, assessment and education.
· Keep a clear CPD record aligned to regulatory and organisational requirements.
Essential Criteria
Essential Sector Experience
· Current and in-depth experience working within the equine industry.
· Experience at a senior/management level (e.g. yard manager, head lad/lass, senior instructor).
· Strong knowledge of equine anatomy, physiology, welfare and husbandry.
· Sound understanding of safe working practices in equine environments.
Essential Qualifications· Level 3 Diploma in Horse Care and Management / Racehorse Care and Management or BHS Stage 3 Care and Ride (or willingness and ability to complete during probation).· Level 2 Functional Skills English and Maths (or willingness to complete during probation).· Full UK Driving Licence with Business Cover Insurance (A copy of your insurance will be requested upon offer)Essential Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
· Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workload independently.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to provide clear, supportive and developmental feedback.
· Strong interpersonal skills and professional integrity.
· Confident IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Commitment to learner success, quality and continuous improvement
Desirable Criteria
·· Assessor qualification (TAQA/A1/A2/D32/D33) or willingness to work towards.
· Teaching qualification (PTTLS or equivalent).
Experience of marking, grading and standardisation.
Key Technologies
· Maytas, Smart Assessor, Microsoft Office.
