Full-Time | September Start | Primary School
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in the Wimbledon area is seeking a dedicated and experienced Learning Support Assistant to join their team from September on a full-time basis.
This rewarding role will involve providing 1:1 support for a Key Stage 2 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The school is looking for a patient, nurturing, and proactive individual who can build positive relationships, promote independence, and help the pupil access learning successfully within the classroom environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support staff to implement strategies that support the child's academic, social, and emotional development. You will play a key role in helping the pupil engage with learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a KS2 pupil with ASD.
- Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil's individual needs.
- Support the child's communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction skills.
- Implement strategies and interventions recommended by the SENCO and external professionals.
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
- Encourage independence whilst providing appropriate support.
- Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil and their family.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to ensure the best outcomes for the child.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- A minimum of 2 years' continuous experience working within a primary school setting.
- Proven experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and additional SEN needs.
- A strong understanding of strategies that support pupils with autism.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
- The ability to build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents.
- Experience working within Key Stage 2 would be highly advantageous.
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs and helping them succeed.
