We are recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join a highly supportive specialist school environment that is committed to helping every pupil thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to work as part of a collaborative team supporting children and young people with additional needs, including complex learning difficulties, communication needs, and behaviours that may challenge. The successful candidate will start ASAP, with the role continuing into September and beyond on a long-term/permanent basis.
About the Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely alongside teachers and support staff to provide tailored support to pupils both inside and outside the classroom. You will help create an inclusive, engaging, and safe learning environment where every child can achieve their full potential.
You will support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, assisting with learning activities, communication, emotional regulation, social development, and personal care where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and additional learning needs.
- Work closely with teachers to deliver engaging and accessible learning activities.
- Provide 1:1 and small group interventions tailored to individual pupil needs.
- Promote pupil independence, confidence, and social inclusion.
- Support pupils with communication and emotional regulation.
- Assist with behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.
- Help maintain a positive, stimulating, and safe learning environment.
- Support pupils during therapy sessions, community activities, and extracurricular learning.
- Record observations and feedback on pupil progress to teaching staff.
- Assist with personal care and basic health/hygiene needs where required.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, families, and professionals.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare and wellbeing of all pupils at all times.
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs.
- Calm, patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.
- Ability to remain positive and composed in challenging situations.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Good literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills.
- Willingness to support pupils
- Enhanced DBS Certificate
- Full Right to Work in the UK is essential.
