Planning Engineer (L5)
Location: Somerset (Hybrid – 3 Days On Site)
Rate: £450–£465 per day (Umbrella)
Contract: Until December 2026 (with potential extension)
Planning Engineer – Major UK Infrastructure Project
We are seeking an experienced Planning Engineer to support the delivery of one of the UK's largest and most complex engineering and construction programmes.
Working within a high-performing project controls and delivery team, you will play a key role in developing, maintaining and optimising detailed construction schedules across a major Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC (MEH) scope.
This is an excellent opportunity for a planner with experience in large-scale construction, infrastructure, energy, utilities, industrial or regulated environments who enjoys working in a fast-paced, technically challenging project setting.
What You'll Be Doing
- Developing and maintaining detailed Level 5 construction schedules
- Supporting installation, testing and commissioning activities
- Integrating construction activities with wider project programmes
- Producing resource-loaded schedules and construction sequences
- Supporting 16-week look-ahead planning processes
- Monitoring progress and reporting schedule performance
- Managing programme updates within planning and production control systems
- Identifying constraints, risks and interface issues
- Working closely with construction, delivery and project controls teams
- Supporting schedule adherence and performance improvement initiatives
- Assisting with the development of visual planning and 4D planning capabilities
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Proven experience as a Planning Engineer on complex construction or engineering projects
- Strong understanding of project planning, scheduling and progress monitoring
- Experience working in regulated or highly controlled environments
- Knowledge of engineering, procurement and construction processes
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Experience producing and maintaining detailed construction schedules
Desirable:
- Experience within Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC (MEH) delivery
- Background in energy, utilities, nuclear, industrial, rail or major infrastructure projects
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification
- OND, HND, Degree or equivalent construction-related qualification
- Professional membership such as CIOB, ICE, CIBSE or RICS
- Experience supporting 4D planning and construction visualisation activities
