This cook job role is 20 hours but additional hours of work are available for variable duties. This would include helping to keep the nursery clean, up to 30 hours.
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Cook to join our small, friendly children's day nursery from 3rd August 2026. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food preparation and a commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene. As Cook, you will play a vital role in creating healthy and nutritious meals for the children who attend each day while ensuring the kitchen operates smoothly and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook age appropriate, fresh food for the children who attend each day (up to 43) with minimum wastage according to menu specifications.
- Ensure dietary requirements are catered for and communicated to the staff team.
- Work within the team to promote healthy eating.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation within the kitchen, adhering to food safety standards at all times.
- Monitor inventory levels of food supplies and assist with ordering as needed.
- Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and cleaned after use.
Experience / Qualification
- Food Safety Certificate CIEH L2 or above (or equivalent)
- Proven experience as a Cook in a domestic or commercial setting.
- Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food safety practices (COSHH) , and meal preparation methods.
- Ability to work under pressure, with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- Ability to demonstrate sound knowledge of managing different dietary requirements, including food allergens.
- A commitment to promote safeguarding as well as health and safety.
Pay: £13.75 per hour
