Veterinary Surgeon (Hospital) - Cardiff
Introduction
Candor Vets is delighted to present an exciting opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join a thriving 24/7 veterinary hospital in Glamorgan. This role is ideal for a confident and compassionate vet who enjoys managing hospitalised patients, complex medical cases, and inpatient care, while still valuing variety in their week. The position focuses on hospital-based care, with opportunities for surgery and first-opinion consulting, moving away from a traditional GP role.
The Role
The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time caring for hospitalised patients, managing medical workups, supporting emergency admissions, developing treatment plans, and seeing cases through from admission to discharge. There will also be opportunities to undertake surgery and maintain consulting skills without the pressure of being in consults all day. This is a unique opportunity within a 24/7 veterinary hospital providing out-of-hours services for approximately 40 local practices, ensuring a varied and interesting caseload.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing complex medical inpatients
- Working up challenging diagnostic cases
- Supporting emergency admissions
- Performing soft tissue surgery
- Collaborating with the ECC team
- Consulting on a small number of first-opinion cases
- Mentoring and supporting less experienced colleagues
This role would suit a vet who enjoys clinical thinking, building case continuity, and providing high-quality patient care throughout a hospital stay. The practice fosters a collaborative environment where you will never be sole charge, working alongside experienced colleagues and supported by a large team of talented RVNs and ACAs, with access to dedicated reception and client care teams. Clinical freedom and autonomy are encouraged.
Working Pattern:
- Up to 4 days per week (36 hours)
- 1 in 5 weekends (9-hour consulting shift)
- 1 x 12-hour bank holiday shift per year
- Flexible working requests are welcomed

Located just outside Cardiff, the practice offers easy access to everything South Wales has to offer. Within a short commute, you can enjoy Cardiff's vibrant restaurants, culture, and sporting events, the stunning coastline of the Vale of Glamorgan, and the Brecon Beacons National Park. The area provides world-class walking, cycling, mountain biking, beautiful beaches, countryside, and numerous outdoor adventures.
