Overview
Pen Underwriting is looking for an Assistant Underwriter to join our Household and Personal Lines team in London.
Whether you already have underwriting experience or are looking to take the next step in your insurance career, this is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and experienced team where you'll gain exposure to a wide range of underwriting activities and develop your technical expertise.
Working closely with experienced Underwriters, you will support the management of new and existing business, helping to deliver a profitable and well governed portfolio. This is a varied role that combines underwriting support, broker servicing, account management and portfolio analysis, offering the opportunity to build your knowledge across multiple areas of the business.

This role is based in our London office and offers a flexible hybrid working pattern of five working days in the office followed by five working days from home. The cycle typically runs Wednesday to Tuesday in the office, followed by Wednesday to Tuesday working remotely.
How you'll make an impact
Support the underwriting of new business, renewals, mid term adjustments and cancellations.
Review risks, prepare documentation and assist with underwriting decisions in line with agreed guidelines.
Build and maintain relationships with brokers, providing a professional and efficient service.
Assist with portfolio monitoring, reporting and data analysis to support business performance.
Identify trends, anomalies and emerging risks, escalating where appropriate.
Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with underwriting and regulatory requirements.
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and support the wider underwriting team.
About You
Experience within an insurance, underwriting or broking environment.
Household, personal lines or delegated authority experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Good communication and relationship building skills.
Analytical mindset with the ability to work confidently with data and information.
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
CII qualifications, or a willingness to work towards them, would be advantageous.
Positive, proactive approach with a desire to learn and progress within underwriting.
