As part of our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Consultant in Pain Medicine to join our clinical leadership team and help shape the future of innovative pain management services across the UK.
The Role
We are looking for a GMC-registered Consultant on the specialist register with significant experience in the assessment and management of chronic pain conditions. The successful candidate will provide specialist consultations, develop personalised treatment plans, prescribe where clinically appropriate, and contribute to the ongoing development of Emerald Health Clinic's clinical services.
This is a fully remote position offering flexibility while maintaining the highest standards of clinical care, governance, and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive specialist pain assessments via video consultation.
- Review medical histories, previous treatments, and supporting clinical documentation.
- Develop evidence-based treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
- Assess patient suitability for CBPMs (Cannabis-Based Products for Medicinal Use) where appropriate.
- Prescribe and monitor treatment in accordance with current UK legislation, professional guidance, and clinic protocols.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions and case reviews.
- Support and mentor Non-Medical Prescribers and other clinicians within the service.
- Contribute to clinical governance activities including audits, incident reviews, policy development, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure accurate and timely clinical record keeping using the clinic's electronic patient record system.
- Maintain compliance with GMC standards, CQC requirements, and clinic policies.
Essential Requirements
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
- CCT or equivalent in Pain Medicine, Anaesthesia with Pain Specialism, Rehabilitation Medicine, Palliative Medicine, or another relevant specialty.
- Minimum 3 years' consultant-level experience managing chronic pain patients.
- Experience assessing patients with complex chronic pain conditions.
- Excellent communication and patient-centred consultation skills.
- Comfortable working remotely using digital healthcare systems.
- Strong understanding of clinical governance, risk management, and quality improvement.
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience within medical cannabis or cannabinoid medicine.
- Membership of the British Pain Society.
- Membership of the UKMCCS
- Experience working within independent healthcare services.
- Experience supporting education, training, or supervision of clinicians.
- Interest in service development and innovation within pain management.
