What You’ll Be Doing
As a driver, such as HGV Driver, you will be spending large amounts of time on customer premises, this also includes suppliers, either delivering or collecting from them. This will make you an ambassador for On Logistics. You will be the principle contact for handling a range of customer specific tasks in front of other people. In such circumstances, you must always represent On Logistics with professionalism, be well dressed and in the event of a problem you must advise the Transport Planner or Transport Manager. This role consists of single drops as well as multi drops.

- Utilise the HR Management System effectively to manage leave requests, report sickness/absence, and record appointments in line with company procedures.
- Attend work punctually and prepared for duty, wearing the correct uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Comply with all customer site rules, procedures, and standards, always representing the company in a professional and responsible manner.
- Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, supporting both personal development and wider business performance.
- Adhere to required shift patterns and demonstrate flexibility, including availability for out-of-hours work where necessary to meet operational needs.
- Work proactively towards achieving and exceeding Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), maintaining high standards of performance and accountability.
Role Specific Responsibilities
- Comply fully with the RHA Company Driver Handbook, always promoting a best practice approach to Health & Safety, including strict adherence to drivers’ hours regulations, working time rules, and required break periods to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
- Collect and verify goods from designated collection points, ensuring all customer orders are complete, accurate, and correctly documented prior to departure.
- Load and secure goods safely and efficiently, ensuring correct weight distribution and compliance with legal and company safety standards.
- Plan and follow the most efficient delivery routes, considering traffic conditions, roadworks, weather, and other potential disruptions to ensure timely deliveries.
- Utilise GPS and route planning systems alongside local geographical knowledge to optimise delivery performance and meet customer expectations.
- Conduct routine vehicle checks and basic maintenance inspections, promptly reporting any defects or issues in line with company procedures.
- Operate vehicles safely in all conditions, including adverse weather such as rain, snow, and ice, adjusting driving practices accordingly.
- Ensure all goods are delivered in excellent condition, maintaining care and responsibility for the load throughout transit and delivery.
- Provide a high standard of customer service, interacting with customers in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner.
- Accurately complete and maintain all required documentation, including route details, mileage, delivery records, and compliance logs, in accordance with the RHA Company Driver Handbook and company procedures.
- Utilise and safely operate pump trucks and tail lifts where necessary to ensure the safe delivery of goods.
About You
Essential
- Valid UK HGV Class 2 (Category C) Driving Licence
- Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
- Valid Digital Tachograph Card
- Experience complying with drivers’ hours and tachograph regulations
- Experience carrying out daily vehicle checks and defect reporting
- Good knowledge of UK road transport laws and safety standards
- Strong understanding of health and safety procedures
- Ability to complete paperwork accurately (delivery notes, logs)
- Good time management and organisational skills
- Ability to work to schedules and deadlines
- Good communication skills (team and customer interaction)
- Physically fit for manual handling tasks
- Reliable, punctual, and professional attitude
- Flexible approach to working hours
Desirable
- ADR Licence (for transporting hazardous goods)
- HIAB certification (if crane work involved)
- Forklift licence
- Additional driver training (e.g. defensive driving, fuel efficiency courses)
- Proven experience as an HGV Class 2 driver
- Multi-drop delivery experience
- Experience using tail lifts and pallet trucks
- Experience with electronic Proof of Delivery (POD) systems
- Customer-facing delivery experience
- Knowledge of local or regional delivery routes
- Basic vehicle mechanical knowledge
- Strong customer service skills
- Good geographical awareness
- Clean driving record (minimal endorsements)
- Ability to use route planning or logistics apps skills
