Lismore Community Stores is seeking a reliable, friendly, and community-minded Shop Assistant to support the day-to-day operation of our village store and Post Office counter. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in providing excellent customer service, and is comfortable working independently.
The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring the smooth running of the store, maintaining stock levels, supporting local residents and visitors, and helping promote the store through social media engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Provide a welcoming and helpful service to customers.
- Operate the shop till accurately and efficiently.
- Handle cash, card payments, and daily reconciliations.
- Assist customers with enquiries and purchases.
Store Operations
- Open and close the store following established procedures.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and well-presented retail environment.
- Monitor stock levels and assist with stock ordering.
- Receive deliveries and ensure products are correctly stored and displayed.
- Carry out stock rotation and date checking to minimise waste.
Post Office Services
- Operate the Post Office counter in accordance with procedures and training provided.
- Process postal transactions and provide customer assistance with postal services.
- Maintain accuracy and confidentiality in all Post Office operations.
Health, Safety and Hygiene
- Follow all health, safety, food hygiene, and security procedures.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and community store policies.
- Report any maintenance, safety, or operational concerns promptly.
Social Media and Community Engagement
- Assist with updating and maintaining the store's social media presence.
- Create and share content promoting products, services, events, and community initiatives.
- Support local marketing and community engagement activities.
Person Specification
Essential
- Friendly, approachable, and customer-focused.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic numeracy and cash-handling skills.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently.
- Organised and attentive to detail.
- Willingness to undertake Post Office training as required.
- Comfortable using social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
Desirable
- Previous retail, hospitality, or customer service experience.
- Experience operating a till or point-of-sale system.
- Experience with stock management and ordering.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and retail health and safety practices.
- Experience managing social media accounts for a business or organisation.
