Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Fish Shop Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about seafood and food preparation, with a keen eye for quality and hygiene. Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and presentation of fresh fish and seafood products
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness in accordance with health regulations
- Support the butchery of fish, including filleting and portioning as required
- Provide excellent customer service by offering advice on seafood options and handling customer enquiries
- Ensure stock levels are maintained, organised, and properly rotated to prevent waste
- Assist with the daily cleaning of work areas, equipment, and display cases
- Follow all food safety procedures during food handling and preparation processes
Requirements
- Previous experience in food production, culinary roles, or kitchen environments is desirable
- Knowledge of food safety standards and practices within a retail or restaurant setting
- Experience in butchery or fishmongering is advantageous but not essential; training will be provided
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety
- Good communication skills with a friendly approach towards customers and team members
- Willingness to learn new skills related to seafood preparation and food handling
