About the role:
At Hampshire County Council, you’ll maintain and repair our own fleet in a well-managed workshop, with Monday–Friday working and a strong emphasis on doing the job properly, safely and to a high standard.
We’re recruiting across multiple locations including Totton, Micheldever, Hook, Petersfield and Bishops Waltham. This advert is for Hook, but if you’re open to other sites, we’d be happy to explore options with you.
We’re particularly interested in:
- Experienced HGV technicians
- Newly qualified technicians looking for structured support
The role
You’ll carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs across a varied fleet, helping to keep essential services moving.
- Key responsibilities include:
- Servicing, maintaining and repairing HGVs and trailers
- Diagnosing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults using diagnostic equipment
- Preparing and carrying out MOT inspections in line with DVSA standards
- Completing vehicle safety checks and ensuring compliance with regulations
- Maintaining accurate records of work, parts and time
- Supporting breakdowns and roadside assistance when required
About you
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
- Proven experience as an HGV Technician (or similar)
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of DVSA regulations and compliance requirements
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable:
- Experience using modern diagnostic tools and software
- Additional certifications (e.g. IRTEC, ADR)
- Welding or fabrication skills
