An exciting opportunity to join a specialist accountancy practice at the heart of the horse racing world.
Based in Newmarket — the global home of racing — our client is looking for an experienced accountant to manage a portfolio of equine and racing sector clients, from stud farms and breeding operations to training yards, syndicates, and rural enterprises.
This is a rare role that genuinely blends financial expertise with a passion for horses. You'll be working alongside racehorse trainers, breeders, owners, jockeys, and equestrian businesses, with site visits to racecourses, studs, and stables forming part of your working week.
What you'll be doing
- Managing a portfolio of equine and racing sector clients, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and tax returns
- Preparing year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies across racing, breeding, and equine services
- Attending client meetings on-site at stud farms, training yards, and racecourses, providing tailored financial advice
- Overseeing and mentoring junior team members, reviewing their work and supporting professional development
- Preparing and reviewing VAT returns, tax computations, and advisory schedules, with a focus on agricultural and equine tax planning
What we're looking for
- ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent)
- Proven experience in general practice - ideally with exposure to rural, agricultural, or equine clients, or a strong desire to work in this space
- Up-to-date working knowledge of VAT
- Strong IT skills, including cloud accounting platforms such as Xero or QuickBooks
- Confident communicator with the ability to build relationships across the racing and equine community
- Ability to travel to client premises including racecourses, studs, and rural locations
- A genuine enthusiasm for horse racing and the equine industry is highly desirable
