This role involves performing and supporting essential water hygiene tasks, such as water flushing, temperature monitoring, documentation, and fault reporting, as directed by the Water Safety Manager.
Carry out planned preventative tasks.
Record all tasks on handheld electronic device.
Work in accordance with relevant Water Safety Plan requirements & Building Regulations.
Always interprets and follows regulations.
Immediately notifies Water Safety Manager of any deviation from the regulations.
Use of all relevant PPE, tools, and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works.
Work activities may be demanding and/or non-routine and involve travel between Trust Properties.
Flushing Water Outlets: Regularly flushing taps, showers, and other water outlets to prevent water stagnation. This reduces the risk of microbial growth such as Legionella bacteria, which can cause serious infections.
Monitoring Water Temperature: Checking and ensuring water temperatures remain within safe limits to prevent scalding and inhibit bacterial growth.
Recording and Reporting: Keeping detailed logs of flushing activities, including times, duration, and any irregularities observed. Reporting any signs of contamination, faulty outlets, or temperature anomalies to maintenance or infection control teams.
Maintenance Support: Identifying and reporting any leaks, blockages, or damage to water outlets to maintenance staff for repair.
Compliance: Ensuring that flushing procedures follow healthcare regulations and infection control policies to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
Risk Management: Contributing to the hospital’s water safety management plan by supporting regular water system maintenance to minimize infection risks.
