Job Title: Policy Officer - Band C
Salary: The starting salary is £ 48,995, which includes allowances totalling £3,009.
The salary is broken down as £ 45,986 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £ 54,863. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Overview
The Policy officer will be based in the London Policing Board (LPB) Engagement team, the team support the MPS in their interactions with the LPB, including drafting papers, preparing briefings, managing actions and supporting all engagement. The London Policing Board is an independent board who were set up to support the Mayor of London in holding the MPS to account. The Board meets the MPS ten times a year in a public setting to discuss a range of different topics and issues
Purpose of the role:
Working to the Band B LPB Policy Manager, this role will be part of a team of high-performing, ambitious and inclusive existing policy and strategy professionals to make a real difference and develop their careers within a policing environment.
The LPB Policy Officer will support MPS engagement with the London Policing Board and it’s two Committees. Including ensuring that papers are submitted on time, in accordance with internal governance process, Met leaders are briefed in a timely and appropriate way, minutes are produced and actions completed.
Duties will centre around managing the end-to-end cycle of governance for London Policing Board and Committee meetings, from undertaking agenda planning, commissioning papers, ensuring meeting set-up, minute-taking and action tracking, to support effective scrutiny of the MPS.
A vital part of the role is to maintain effective working relations with the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) and London Policing Board members.
Key responsibilities:
The LPB Policy Officer will be responsible for the following:
Ensure consistently high-quality records of MPS minutes, actions and decisions for meetings of the London Policing Board and its two Committees.
Plan agendas, track decisions and actions of London Policing Board and Committee meetings and communicate outcomes to MPS staff, as appropriate, ensuring actions result in timely activity.
Scrutinise all MPS papers that are submitted to the London Policing Board and Committee meetings to ensure high standards are maintained, challenging papers that are not up to the required standard and supporting authors to improve the quality of their papers.
Support the Band B LPB Policy Manager to produce timely and high-quality briefings, letters, presentations, and updates for and on behalf of Met senior leaders.
Maintain an effective relationship with and knowledge of senior internal and external stakeholders, including MPS Non-Executive Directors, London Policing Board members, MOPAC colleagues, and Whitehall.
Work with the Commissioner’s Private Office and Management Board members’ private offices to ensure a consistent approach to the management of London Policing Board and Committee meetings and proactive engagement in relation to agenda items, papers and actions.
There is an expectation for team members to work flexibly across teams in the Directorate, as required.

Essential Criteria:
Good strategic planning and organisational skills to provide leadership and standards regarding agenda planning, minute taking, identification of actions and decisions for London Policing Board and its Committees
Good written and verbal communications skills to enable development and management of policy and strategy.
Excellent attention to detail for the purpose of accurate minuting and actions tracking
Knowledge and understanding of the Commissioner’s New Met for London Plan and associated corporate risks.
Strong analytical and judgment skills to analyse information and extract key issues for forward programme planning, consulting with senior leaders, and directing authors to prepare fit-for-purpose papers for the London Policing Board and its Committees
Ability to build relationships and influence across the MPS, in particular with private offices/authors, and with the MOPAC.
Capable of being entrusted with confidential information.
Strong IT skills in the use of Microsoft products, in particular Word and Excel.
Able to work under pressure at pace to manage a high volume of work, often set against short timescales and on behalf of Management Board.
Desirable Criteria:
A good understanding of the remits of the London Policing Board and its Committees.
Have a detailed understanding of key challenges and issues in law enforcement and policing both in London and nationally.
Ability to identify improvement opportunities and actively engage in implementing improvements.
Knowledge of MOPAC and how it fulfils its oversight role.
