The role:
You will be responsible for managing and supervising the traffic and pedestrian management operatives.
You will also be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians, ensuring the smooth operation of car parks, roads and surrounding areas primarily during events.
The role will also involve setting up and operating temporary traffic management systems, supporting event logistics, and working collaboratively with clients, colleagues and partner teams to deliver a safe and positive experience for the University Community.
The dress code is white shirt, black trousers and black shoes. As you will be working outdoors please be prepared and dress accordingly (waterproof coat). No hoodies or casual clothing permitted.
The current upcoming dates will be Saturday 20th June and Sunday 27th June working hours are 7am-6pm.
There will also be various future dates available to work across the next year.
Duties
- Time and attendance management: Monitoring and recording staff attendance, ensuring accurate time logging for payroll and compliance purposes.
- Briefing and debriefing staff: Delivering clear briefings to outline duties, safety procedures and event updates, as well as post-shift debriefings to capture feedback and highlight any issues.
- Break and position management: Coordinating staff breaks to ensure fair allocation while maintaining adequate coverage at all times.
- Team supervision: Providing direction, guidance and support to team members during shifts, ensuring standards, equipment, uniform and responsibilities are consistently met.
- Incident supervision: Acting as the first point of escalation for issues or incidents, coordinating responses and reporting to relevant members or teams as required.
- Performance monitoring: Observing staff performance, offering feedback and reporting concerns.
- Traffic and pedestrian management: Directing and supervising the flow of vehicles and pedestrians to and from venues, car parks, pathways and other points, prioritising safety at all times.
- Event operations: Supporting the delivery of event operations, including traffic control, stewarding and crowd management as required.
- Equipment and infrastructure: Installing, monitoring and removing temporary traffic management equipment (eg. cones, barriers, signage) in compliance with safety standards and event or incident requirements.
- Safety and compliance: Ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations and site-specific health and safety procedures.
Experience
- Leadership and Direction: Previous supervising or managing skills within a similar role with the ability to lead, motivate and coordinate teams.
- Customer Service: Strong focus on providing a positive and professional experience for visitors, staff, contractors and the public.
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge and application of safety standards and procedures; Chapter 8 skills and certification are required.
- Communication Skills: Clear and confident communication with a wide range of stakeholders, including staff, students, visitors, contractors and emergency services.
- Practical Skills: Ability to set up and manage temporary traffic management equipment, including signage, cones and barriers.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work variable hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, depending on event requirements.
- Teamwork: Collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively as part of a team under pressure and in dynamic environments.
- Compliance Oversight: Ensuring all staff adhere to safety legislation, company policies and site-specific protocols, with accurate reporting and documentation.
