HIU Engineer
Benefits Package:
- Basic salary from £42,000 - £43,426 (depending on experience)
- 42.5 hour working week
- Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 5:30pm
- Overtime rates paid at x2
- On-call rota: 1 in 6 days OR 1 in 4 weeks (discussed at interview)
- On-call rates paid at x2 + door-to-door pay

We are a well-established organisation delivering integrated engineering and property maintenance services across the UK. With over 50 years of industry experience, we have built a strong reputation for supporting public sector organisations, housing associations, and commercial clients.
Operating primarily across London and the South East, we specialise in maintaining and improving residential and commercial properties, including district heating networks, apartment developments, libraries, civic centres, office blocks, and schools.
Responsibilities:
- Reactive maintenance, fault finding, and repair of Heat Interface Units (HIUs) and communal heating systems
- Diagnose and rectify faults on HIUs, heating systems, control valves, pumps, actuators, and associated plant equipment
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and remedial works on district heating and communal energy systems
- Commission, service, repair, and replace HIUs from a range of manufacturers
- Complete system balancing, performance checks, and operational testing
- Accurately complete service reports and documentation using PDA systems
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations and industry standards
- Field-based role across London and the South East – customer-facing position
Essential Qualifications / Experience:
- Previous experience working on Heat Interface Units (HIUs), communal heating systems, or district heating networks
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic experience on heating and hot water systems
- Experience servicing, repairing, and commissioning HIUs
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing & Heating, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent qualification
- Knowledge of heating controls, pumps, valves, and associated plant equipment
- Experience working within occupied residential properties, housing associations, or commercial environments
- Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable:
- Experience with district heating schemes and energy centres
- Manufacturer training on HIUs (e.g. Danfoss, Altecnic, Evinox, SAV Systems, Heatweb, Elson)
- Unvented Hot Water Certificate
- BPEC Water Regulations Certificate
- Understanding of BMS and communal heating controls
