The Role
We are seeking a Climate Domain/Geo-science Specialist to apply deep environmental knowledge. Your core focus will be your domain-specific expertise, working directly alongside our core AI team to ground machine learning models in real-world climate science. Collaborating with other research leads, you will prepare proposals and partner with collaborators on funding applications. You will act as the vital bridge between complex climate datasets and machine learning systems to shape how AI is applied to global sustainability and climate resilience challenges.
Core Responsibilities
- Serve as the climate science expert, collaborating with the core AI team to guide and develop model design, feature engineering, and predictive validation.
- Author and contribute to high-quality climate-science and domain-specific technical sections of funding proposals.
- Lead the development of AI prototypes and production systems, ensuring they adhere to physical climate laws and environmental science standards.
- Partner with academia, industry, and the public sector on collaborative innovation, helping guide projects from research concept to commercial product.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Climate Science, Meteorology, Environmental Engineering, Earth System Science, Geoscience or a related quantitative discipline. Flexible up to M.Sc. for exceptionally eligible candidates.
- Over 5 years of applied experience working with complex environmental and Geoscience datasets and climate metrics.
- Hands-on experience working with or alongside AI/ML workflows, with a strong technical understanding of neural networks and machine learning model operations.
- Deep proficiency in advanced data analytics, including manipulating geospatial, atmospheric, or time-series environmental data.
- Experience contributing to or participating in major funded research programmes such as Horizon Europe, Innovate UK, or equivalent initiatives is preferrable.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to bridge climate science, engineering, and policy domains effectively.
