Overview
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Steel Yard & Warehouse Operator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing materials, operating equipment, and ensuring the smooth running of warehouse operations. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a background in warehouse management, construction, or materials handling to develop their skills within a dynamic environment.
Duties
- Operate forklifts and other warehouse machinery safely and efficiently to load, unload, and move steel products and materials
- Fulfil existing customers orders, selecting material using picking lists
- Handle materials with care, ensuring proper storage and organisation within the yard and warehouse
- Assist with shipping and receiving activities, including checking deliveries and preparing goods for dispatch
- Measure and cut material as required with a cold cut bandsaw
- Minimise wastage by cutting from the smallest viable section size
- Bundle the material as necessary and load onto company lorries and customer vehicles using forklifts
- Manage inventory using warehouse management systems to maintain accurate stock records
- Conduct physical checks on material
- Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment and report any mechanical issues promptly
- Support in the organisation of the yard, ensuring a clean, safe, and organised workspace
- Load and unload lorries, ensuring materials are handled correctly to prevent damage
- Make deliveries in the company pick-up truck
- Ensure positive working relationships with the operational departments and support other divisions within the company as required
- Execute any other relevant tasks as deemed necessary
Skills & Experience
- Reliable and flexible with a can-do attitude
- Must have a UK driving licence (clean is preferred)
- Counterbalance & Multi Directional Forklift Licenses
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) is desirable
- Proven experience in warehouse operations or construction environments is preferred
- Training will be given in all areas of the position
Pay: £14.50-£15.00 per hour
