Methods Engineer Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C
As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This role will be within the Enabling and Earthwork Section.
What will you do?
Health Safety & Environmental
- Produces Methodology and Risk Assessments and undertakes periodic reviews.
- Prepares and raises Temporary Works Briefs, following up to ensure timely implementation.
- Considers buildability hazards and risks and proposes sequencing / alternate design options to minimize delivery risk
Engineering Control
- Develops methods of work that take cognisance of the current design, temporary works available and also industry best practice.
- Identifies areas for innovation
- Ensure a suitable temporary works design brief and programme of requirements is received
- Reviews temporary works design in accordance with design briefs
- Assists in the investigation of alternative designs for temporary works and costs, working with the design team.
- Ability to read and interrogate temporary works engineering drawings using CAD software.
- Ensure design risks are considered and use Designers Risk Assessments, communicating residual design risks as appropriate
- Ensure that contract-specified checks are carried out during construction and provide the appropriate manager with completed check certificates
- Contribute to identifying innovative and robust solutions
- Production / review / verification of earthworks quantities
Quality
- Supporting and developing trial scopes where applicable to verify designs
- Supporting specification reviews and reviewing incorporation of trial results into specification updates
- Maintains a comprehensive filing system of all records
- Identifies and raises Technical Queries (RFIs) with possible solutions. Tracks closeout of RFIs within section.
Commercial
- Considers methods solutions with consideration to time and direct cost.
What are we looking for?
- Understanding / appreciation of technically complex and dynamic environment with a focus on ensuring high levels of safety, security, and environmental responsibility
- Desired experience within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.
- Desirable experience in:
- Engineering design, methods, contract, and field execution strategies for project delivery,
- Risk identification
- Experience of / good understanding of the technical / delivery aspects of the scope
- Experience of working to and meeting tight deadlines, preferably in preconstruction stages
- Good presentation, influencing and facilitation skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, and a good collaborator who is able to develop relationships and maintain effective networks.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
Training Requirements
- CSCS
- Desirable: Management of Temporary Works Course
- Desirable: SMSTS or equivalent
