We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Service Engineer to join our specialist team maintaining and supporting airport baggage handling systems and related conveyor installations. This is a hands-on, field-based role focused on ensuring the reliability, safety, and optimal performance of critical baggage conveyor systems at major airports and bulk handling sites across the UK, with some international travel.
You will play a key role in delivering high-quality electrical health checks, preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs, and system upgrades — both on-site at client locations and in-house at our head office workshop.
Duties
- Carry out service, maintenance, and repairs on baggage handling systems at UK airports, inter-logistics conveyor installations, bulk handling facilities, and at our head office workshop.
- Writing Method statements and Risk assessments
- Diagnose faults and conduct root cause analysis
- Support customers with technical issues and ensure minimal downtime
- Support the assembly, wiring, and testing of company products to required quality standards.
- Contribute to the preparation of Method Statements and Risk Assessments, with support from senior staff as needed.
- Take ownership for the quality of repairs and maintenance carried out and that service levels are maintained.
- Supporting with breakdowns on baggage handling systems
- Assist with Commissioning new conveyor systems.
- Conduct comprehensive surveys & health checks of existing systems, accurately assess their status, and prepare detailed reports
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers, software engineers, and installation teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with overall project requirements.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities to obtain necessary permits, approvals and certifications.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards throughout the electrical commissioning process.
Context of the Role
This role sits within the EC&I team and supports on-site service work. The engineer will work under the guidance of senior electrical/mechanical engineers. The role works closely with the wider Service department and wider business functions as necessary.
Experience
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering
- 18th Edition certification (BS7671 Wiring Regulations)
- Experience in service, manufacturing or an industrial maintenance environment
- Familiarity with sensors, variable speed drives, control circuitry, and safety systems (e.g. - emergency stops).
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and pass airport airside security clearances.
- IT literate with competence in MS Word and Outlook
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve electrical issues in a timely manner.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel to client sites across the UK and internationally.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to operate company vehicles and equipment as needed.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in airport or logistics environments (baggage handling, material handling systems).
- Hands-on experience with Siemens PLCs and TIA Portal for programming, diagnostics, and fault-finding.
- Previous overseas work experience.
