Overview
The Jewellery Workshop Supervisors primary focus will be to ensure that the workshop operates efficiently and effectively, meeting both customer expectations and company objectives. You will be responsible for technical expertise, leadership and managing resources effectively. You will oversee all the aspects of the workshop production from design concept through to production and delivery, whilst overseeing quality within sampling and actual manufacturing. You will manage and lead teams to success, whilst always ensuring adherence to health and safety standards.
You will be responsible for focusing on buying goods, materials and services on behalf of the workshop and production manager for the daily running of operations. you will be responsible for preparing reports, tracking orders, managing optimal stock levels, and reviewing the quality of purchased products.
Key responsibilities
Workshop Operations
- Supervise daily workshop activities including bespoke manufacture, repairs, resizing, stone setting, polishing, and finishing.
- Allocate workloads to jewellers, setters, polishers, and apprentices to meet production schedules.
- Monitor workflow to ensure deadlines are met and customer expectations are exceeded.
- Maintain workshop equipment and tools, arranging servicing or repairs when required.
Quality Control
- Inspect completed pieces to ensure they meet company quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with UK hallmarking regulations and industry standards (e.g., requirements set by the Assay Office Birmingham or Assay Office London where applicable).
- Identify and resolve production issues promptly.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor workshop staff, including jewellers, apprentices, and trainees.
- Provide technical guidance and skills development.
- Conduct performance reviews and support training initiatives.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and safe working environment.
Production & Planning
- Coordinate with sales and design teams to ensure feasibility and accurate production timelines.
- Monitor stock levels of precious metals, gemstones, and consumables.
- Assist in cost control and materials management to minimise waste.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with UK health & safety regulations, including COSHH requirements.
- Promote safe handling of chemicals, tools, and machinery.
- Maintain a clean and organised workshop environment.
Qualifications

- Proven experience (5+ years) in fine jewellery manufacture and repair.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience within a jewellery workshop.
- Strong bench skills (fabrication, soldering, setting, finishing).
- In-depth knowledge of precious metals and gemstones.
- Understanding of UK hallmarking standards.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Desirable
- Formal qualification in Jewellery Manufacturing, Design, or related field.
- Experience with CAD/CAM processes (e.g., Rhino, Matrix).
- Membership of a recognised industry body such as the National Association of Jewellers.
- Experience working within an SME environment.
