Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Childcare Practitioner to join our current team. The Childcare Practitioner will assist individuals in need, providing care and support in various capacities.
You will have the opportunity to join our established children's home with exceptional standards.
Ideally you will have experience of working with children and hold a Level 3/4 Qualification in Residential childcare or equivalent.
Purpose and Summary of Job
To support children and young people ranging between 6 and 18 years of age to safeguard and promote their safety and welfare at all times. To support our children and young people to feel a sense of belonging and influence within their home, providing individualised day to day care and support.
To provide and encourage children and young people to access opportunities to engage in hobbies and experiences in order to attain positive outcomes, boost confidence and improve resilience whilst increasing their levels of independence and self-regulation.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
To safeguard and promote the safety and welfare of each child at all times; this is to be achieved primarily by knowing and following Bluejay Care Group policies and procedures including the instructions of senior staff and (if no such policy, procedure or instruction exists) to act in the best interest of the child/young person.
Where emergency situations arise, to have in your practice at all times the need to protect children and young people from experiencing significant harm (whether physical, psychological, emotional, financial etc.). Where this is consistent with your duties to take reasonable steps to protect your own health and safety and that of others.
When working with children and young people, to demonstrate a variety of approaches and techniques that seek to minimise risk and promote their personal development; and to key work children and young people in a supportive and structured manner that teaches them skills in a way that is adapted to their individual needs and wishes.

Childcare Practitioner responsibilities include:
· To act as a positive role model for children, young people and colleagues;
· To immediately alert a senior colleague of any safeguarding concerns.
· To support the daily needs of the children and young people;
· To support the children and young people’s links with their families and local community; promoting continued contact and involvement;
· To follow guidelines in support of positive behaviour and reinforcement;
· To provide emotional support at times of difficulty;
· To create a safe and happy environment in which to live and learn;
· To help children and young people to access education, health and leisure services;
· To provide children and young people with the guidance they need to boost their independence skills;
· To promote Children’s Rights and safeguard children and young people’s welfare.
· To have a good working understanding of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015
· To adhere to Health and Safety legislation and policy.
· To promote Equal Opportunities for all, embracing diversity and challenging discrimination.
· Respect the cultural, religious and personal practices and needs of children and young people.
· To retain confidentiality at all times.
· Be accountable for your own standard of practice.
· To contribute to the placement planning and recording systems for students;
· To collate information required for the children and young people’s progress reports or placement reviews.
· To plan, undertake and record key worker sessions;
· To support the children and young people to progress towards their agreed EHCP outcomes;
· To ensure that documentation including children and young people’s files / electronic records are up to date and well organised;
· To ensure that the children and young person’s Care Plan is kept up to date and relevant to their interests and needs;
· To take ownership and act in the best interest of the children and young people’s health needs, which may require you to attend appointments with health professionals. And to complete and be accountable for the actions following these appointments;
· To make sure the children and young people have adequate and suitable clothing and ensure the children and young people are clean and presentable along with supporting the child or young person with any self-care needs they may have;
· To know the children and young people, which may include, although not limited to, their file, background and family details, their interests and hobbies, encouraging them to take part, join clubs etc;
· To actively support children and young people to express their views, wishes and feelings and appropriately advocate on their behalf using any communication measures required.
· To support and encourage the children and young people’ to actively feedback about the service they receive.
