Job Overview
Based at our warehouse facility in Peterborough, we are looking for an experienced and proactive Stock Controller to join our warehouse operation. The successful candidate must already have a solid understanding of stock control processes within a warehouse or distribution environment and be confident working independently from day one.
You will play a key role in maintaining stock accuracy, investigating discrepancies, supporting operational efficiency and ensuring robust stock management procedures are followed at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain accurate stock records through regular cycle counts, spot checks and reconciliations
- Investigate stock variances, shortages, damages and returns, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
- Work closely with goods-in, warehouse and dispatch teams to ensure stock movements are accurately recorded
- Analyse stock trends and produce accurate reports for management
- Challenge existing processes where necessary to improve stock accuracy and operational performance
- Maintain strong stock control procedures and ensure compliance across warehouse operations
- Support inventory audits and ensure all discrepancies are resolved efficiently
- Ensure all activities are carried out in line with Health & Safety procedures
Essential Experience & Skills
Applications without relevant stock control experience will not be considered.
The successful candidate must have:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a dedicated Stock Controller or Inventory Controller role
- Experience using warehouse management systems (WMS) and stock management software
- Strong understanding of warehouse operations including goods receiving, storage and dispatch
- Proven experience conducting stock investigations and resolving stock discrepancies
- Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
- Confidence working independently and taking ownership of stock accuracy
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Good understanding of Health & Safety within a warehouse environment
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills including reporting, filters and lookups
Desirable
- Experience working within fast-paced warehouse or distribution operations
- Experience producing KPI or stock accuracy reports
- Knowledge of trend analysis and loss prevention methods
Important Information
This role is suited to candidates who already understand the day-to-day responsibilities of stock control. We are not seeking applicants whose experience is limited to general warehouse operative duties only.
Candidates should be comfortable investigating issues independently, analysing data and maintaining high levels of stock accuracy in a fast-paced operational environment.
