PMLD Teaching Assistant
Sense Education hiring for a specialist setting in Blackburn, looking for a caring, patient, and dedicated PMLD Teaching Assistant. The Role
As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to provide personalised support for pupils with complex learning and physical needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups throughout the school day.
- Assisting with personalised learning activities tailored to individual EHCP targets.
- Supporting communication through a range of methods, including visual aids, sensory approaches, and communication systems.
- Helping pupils engage with sensory, creative, and interactive learning experiences.
- Assisting with personal care and physical support where required.
- Supporting pupils' emotional wellbeing, comfort, and independence.
- Working alongside therapists and healthcare professionals to implement support plans.
- Promoting a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment where every pupil can thrive.
Who This Role Is For
This role would suit someone who is:
- Minimum qualifications required: A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification or a background in education or care (NVQ, CACHE, Degree, or equivalent)
- Compassionate, patient, and nurturing.
- Passionate about supporting children and young people with complex needs.
- Calm under pressure and able to adapt to changing situations.
- A strong team player with excellent communication skills.
- Comfortable supporting pupils with personal care needs.
- Keen to learn and develop specialist SEND skills.
Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:
- Special Educational Needs (SEND)
- PMLD or complex needs settings
- Care work or support work
- Healthcare or nursing support
- Residential care
- Youth work or childcare

This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
