Coach Builder / Rolling Stock Engineer
Location: Nottingham
Salary: £52,000 per annum + overtime opportunities
Hours: 40 hours per week (4 x 10-hour shifts)
Shift Pattern: Monday–Thursday or Tuesday–Friday, 07:00–17:00
Holiday: 28 days annual leave
About the Role
We are a well-established diesel locomotive maintenance depot based in Nottingham, specialising in servicing, maintenance, heavy engineering, and full overhauls.
We are looking to recruit an experienced Coach Builder / Rolling Stock Engineer to join our team. This role is ideally suited to candidates with a background in fibreglass work, joinery, and structural repairs, such as those from boat building or van conversion environments.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out servicing and maintenance of locomotives

Structural repair work including:
- Cab roofs
-
Flooring
-
Bodywork
- Fibreglass repairs and refurbishment

Joinery and interior works
-
Welding and fabrication
-
Removal, refitting and overhaul of mechanical and structural components

Fault finding and general engineering tasks

Bogie refurbishment and component overhaul

Assist with lifting operations and safe use of overhead cranes

Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records

General depot duties including cleaning and preparation of components
Skills & Experience
-
Experience in coach building, structural repair, or similar heavy engineering environments
-
Strong background in fibreglass and/or joinery work
-
Experience in bodywork and refurbishment projects
-
Background in boat building, vehicle conversions, or rolling stock would be highly desirable

Strong practical skills and attention to detail

Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team

Positive attitude and good communication skills
Requirements

NVQ Level 3 in Engineering (or equivalent) preferred

Full UK driving licence

Willingness to undertake any required industry training

Physically able to:
- Climb steps and access equipment

Work in confined spaces
-
Lift and handle heavy components
-
Work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions

Work is carried out in both covered and open depot environments

Overtime is available, including weekends

Role subject to medical assessment

Random drug and alcohol testing applies due to the safety-critical nature of the role
