Room Leader – Job Description
Purpose of Post:
To take responsibility for the day-to-day organisation and running of a designated room within the nursery, ensuring high standards of care, learning and development for all children. To have a sound knowledge of Company policies, procedures, statutory welfare requirements and Ofsted expectations, ensuring these are consistently implemented.
To act as a positive role model for the staff team, demonstrating outstanding practice in both individual and group work with children, and supporting colleagues and parents as needed.
To ensure the safety, security and well-being of all children, staff and visitors within the room at all times.
To support the Nursery Manager and Deputy Manager in implementing safeguarding procedures in line with Local Authority and Company requirements.
To contribute to the nursery’s aim of achieving and maintaining an Outstanding Ofsted rating.
To support ongoing improvements identified in the nursery’s development and action plans.
To promote the nursery’s values and ethos, ensuring high-quality care and education within the room.
Main Duties:
- To lead and manage the daily running of the room, ensuring a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment.
- To implement and uphold Company policies and procedures, addressing any concerns appropriately.
- To support, mentor and guide room staff, students and apprentices, ensuring effective inductions and ongoing development.
- To act as a key person, building strong relationships with children and their families.
- To plan, deliver and evaluate engaging activities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
- To monitor children’s progress and support their individual learning and development needs.
- To work with the management team to ensure effective staff deployment within the room.
- To motivate and support team members through positive role modelling and teamwork.
- To contribute ideas to enhance staff engagement and the overall quality of provision.
- To maintain accurate records, including observations, assessments and safeguarding documentation.
- To communicate effectively with parents, carers and colleagues.
- To recognise and promote high-quality practice within the room.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education (or equivalent) – essential
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a nursery setting – required
- Experience in leading or supporting a team – desirable
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Sound knowledge of the EYFS framework and safeguarding practices
