Are you an experienced Systems Engineer looking to work across the full development lifecycle on complex defence and communications projects?
We’re supporting a highly innovative engineering business in the defence sector in their search for a Systems Engineer to join their growing Systems function. You’ll work on a diverse range of complex systems involving specialist sensors, electronics, signal processing, firmware, and software.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer who enjoys variety and wants hands-on involvement in system design, implementation, integration, testing, and customer acceptance across multiple cutting-edge programmes.

- Must hold a British passport
- No dual nationality due to security clearance restrictions
- Ideally British-born, although applications may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Must be eligible to obtain SC or DV UK Security Clearance

The Role
As a Systems Engineer, you will:
- Undertake design activities across various stages of the systems development lifecycle
- Support the delivery of technical requirements through design, integration, and customer acceptance
- Develop and review technical documentation including test plans, specifications, and procedures
- Undertake system testing, qualification, and integration activities
- Identify technical risks and opportunities within projects
- Work closely with hardware, software, and firmware teams to ensure system performance requirements are met
- Attend and contribute to customer and internal design reviews
- Support customer acceptance events at factory and external sites
- Be involved in product safety, reliability, and through-life support
- Support research and development activities to improve product quality, efficiency, and cost
What We’re Looking For
- Experience delivering aspects of system design, implementation, test, and integration
- Defence sector experience would be highly advantageous
- Awareness of the full systems lifecycle from concept through to acceptance
- Ability to analyse and define system acceptance requirements
- Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation
- Appreciation of electronics and software / firmware design principles
- Strong communication skills with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
- Experience of Agile or Spiral development lifecycles would be advantageous
- Engineering Degree or equivalent
- Full UK driving licence
- Member of a professional Engineering or Science Institute would be advantageous
- Ability to travel occasionally within the UK
