HGV Class 1 (CE) Driver – Tramping (Self-Employed) at Viton Transport Services
Waiting List Open | Structured Operation | High Standards
We operate a structured, professionally managed haulage operation with clear systems, planning, and communication.
Rather than urgent or volume recruitment, we maintain a priority waiting list for experienced self-employed HGV Class 1 drivers who want long-term, predictable work within a calm and well-run tramping operation.
This opportunity suits drivers who value:
- Structure and routine
- Clear communication and planning
- Well-prepared vehicles
- A calm, professional working environment
If you are looking for casual work, short-term placements, or loosely managed operations, this role will not be the right fit.
Pay Structure (Enhanced Flat-Rate)
Rather than a low basic rate with overtime premiums, we operate an enhanced flat-rate structure that already reflects longer working weeks.
Monday – Friday:
- £17.50 per hour starting rate (flat rate)
- Same rate applies to all weekday hours
Rate Progression:
- Reviewed every 3 months
- £0.25 per hour increase per successful review

Additional Pay:
- £26.20 per night out (tramping allowance)
- £0.50 per hour fuel efficiency bonus when MPG targets are met
- £20 per completed ADR load (where applicable)
Hours & Working Pattern:
- Guaranteed minimum 50 hours per week
- Typical working week: 55–65 hours
- Monday–Friday tramping
- Weekend work only by agreement
Breakdowns & Delays:
- In the event of a vehicle breakdown or roadside delay beyond the driver’s control, up to 10 hours will be paid for the affected working day.
- This is intended to fairly compensate for productive time lost due to mechanical issues.
Vehicles & Driver Support:
- Modern, well-maintained vehicles
- 360° cameras and reversing cameras
- Driver-facing safety systems (fatigue and distraction alerts)
