About the Role
BHI is seeking a proactive and experienced Health & Safety Compliance Officer to lead and strengthen all aspects of health, safety, and environmental compliance across our organisation.
This is a newly created, high-impact role within a complex multi-occupancy healthcare environment, where you will ensure Health & Safety is fully compliant, embedded in daily operations, and actively managed across the site. Initially, the appointment is expected to be on a 12month contract basis, with a review at the end of the term to determine ongoing requirements.
You’ll work closely with our Facilities Manager and team, alongside an external Chartered Health & Safety consultant, to deliver robust governance and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Health & Safety compliance in line with UK legislation (HSWA, RIDDOR, Management Regs)
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and risk registers
- Oversee risk assessments, COSHH, and safe systems of work
- Manage incident reporting, investigation, and trend analysis
- Ensure statutory inspections and contractor compliance (RAMS)
- Coordinate Health & Safety across tenants and occupiers
- Conduct audits, inspections, and manage action plans
- Deliver training and promote a positive safety culture
- Provide clear reporting and assurance to the Executive Board
About You
- Experienced in a Health & Safety role with strong working knowledge of UK legislation
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
- Skilled in risk assessment, incident investigation, and compliance systems
- Strong communicator with the ability to influence at all levels
- Organised, practical, and solutions-focused
Desirable:
NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards), IOSH membership, or experience in healthcare/estates environments.
