Department Administrator (Temporary Assignment)
We are seeking to recruit a Department Administrator who will be based in the Department of Health & Community Sciences, part of the University of Exeter’s Medical School. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing a crucial frontline service to support departmental objectives.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Diary management, meeting coordination, and travel arrangements for academic staff;
- Expense claims, purchase orders, in compliance with university financial and HR policies;
- Onboarding new starters and managing office operations including room bookings, IT equipment, and parking permits;
- Organisation of internal events and guest speaker series;
- Support with production of departmental newsletters and communications.
This role is available from 3rd August 2026 for 12 weeks, working up to 22 hours per week (working pattern to be agreed with the successful applicant).
The salary will be £18.08 per hour (inclusive of holiday allowance.
About You
Essential Criteria:
- Proven administrative experience in a people-facing role and a fast-paced environment;
- Strong organisational and communication skills;
- Confidence handling financial processes and purchasing procedures;
- Ability to work as part of a team and under own initiative;
- Ability to manage a varied workload;
Strong IT skills and experience of using Microsoft packages.

Desirable Criteria:
- Experience working in a Higher Education setting or other large organisation;
- Experience of hybrid working.
