SEN Teacher/ Tutor

Newbury Independent School is looking for a dedicated and resilient SEN Tutor / Teacher to join our team and help us deliver high-quality, structured education to pupils aged 11–19 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and Additional Complex Support (ACS) needs.
In this role, you'll take full ownership of a classroom — planning lessons from our established curriculum framework, delivering engaging and adaptive teaching, and building positive relationships with some of the most inspiring young people you'll ever work with.
What You'll Do
- Plan and deliver structured, engaging lessons across assigned subjects and year groups
- Adapt your teaching approaches to meet the diverse needs of pupils, including those with SEND and complex behaviours
- Take full responsibility for classroom management — maintaining a safe, positive, and productive learning environment
- Monitor and track pupil progress, maintaining accurate records of attendance, attainment, and welfare
- Apply the school's behaviour management policy calmly and consistently, using approved de-escalation strategies
- Collaborate closely with the Head of Department, SENCo, and wider staff team
- Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals to support each pupil's individual journey
- Contribute to written reports, parents' evenings, and whole-school CPD
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Level 3 qualification in Education, Teaching Assistant, or a related subject (e.g. Level 3 Award in Education and Training, BTEC, or equivalent)
- Maths and English GCSE grade 4+ (or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years' experience delivering teaching or structured learning to children or young people
- Proven ability to manage a classroom independently and maintain pupil engagement
- Strong behaviour management skills with a calm, consistent, and professional approach
- A genuine passion for education and commitment to improving outcomes for young people with complex needs
