About the Role
Location: Surrey & Croydon (Multi-Site School Environment)
We are looking for an experienced and customer-focused Level 2 IT Support & Network Engineer to provide onsite IT support across multiple school locations in the Surrey and Croydon area.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on IT professional who enjoys troubleshooting technical issues, supporting users in person, and working across a varied IT environment. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality desktop support, maintaining network infrastructure, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of IT services.
As the primary onsite IT Engineer, you will work closely with school staff and the wider IT team to provide reliable and responsive technical support.
Key Responsibilities
IT Support
- Provide Level 2 onsite technical support for desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, and peripherals.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and operating system issues.
- Install, configure, and maintain end-user devices.
- Support Microsoft Windows 10 and Windows 11 environments.
- Assist users with Microsoft 365 applications and services.
- Create, manage, and maintain Active Directory user accounts and permissions.
- Perform software installations, updates, and device deployments.
- Escalate complex technical issues when required.
- Deliver excellent customer service while maintaining high levels of user satisfaction.
Network & Infrastructure Support
- Troubleshoot wired and wireless network connectivity issues.
- Support switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure.
- Assist with configuration and troubleshooting of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and network services.
- Perform structured cabling and network patching where required.
- Support Windows Server environments and related infrastructure.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, asset records, and support logs.
- Assist with routine infrastructure maintenance and upgrades.
Multi-Site Support
- Provide onsite support across six nearby school locations.
- Travel between sites during the working day as required.
- Provide cover during staff absence and school holiday periods when needed.
- Prioritise and manage multiple support requests efficiently.
- Work independently while collaborating with the wider IT support team.
Required Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in an IT Support, Desktop Support, Service Desk, or Network Support role.
- Strong experience supporting Windows 10 and Windows 11.
- Hands-on experience supporting Microsoft 365.
- Experience administering Active Directory.
- Knowledge of Windows Server environments.
- Solid understanding of:
- TCP/IP
- DNS
- DHCP
- VLANs
- Switching and Routing
- Wireless Networking (Wi-Fi)
- Hardware troubleshooting and repair experience.
- Printer installation and support experience.
- Experience using ITSM or helpdesk ticketing systems.
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently across multiple locations.
Desirable Skills
The following are advantageous but not essential:
- Previous experience supporting schools or educational environments.
- CompTIA A+ Certification.
- CompTIA Network+ Certification.
- Microsoft Certifications.
- ITIL Foundation Certification.
- Experience with Cisco, Aruba, Ubiquiti, or similar enterprise networking technologies.
