The Anglican Shrine at Walsingham has a vacancy for a Relief Night Porter.
Personal Requirements
A hard-working, honest, dependable, self-motivated person to act as Relief Night Porter, willing to uphold the Charities ethos and mission statement.
You must be a flexible, mature and meticulous team member, able to use common sense and to be able to deal with instances as they occur. You must be able to communicate effectively to other staff and pilgrims. You must be able to work unsupervised and be able to use personal initiative to perform your duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform the Night Porter Duties from 7pm – 9am as directed by the Head Night Porter and Hospitality Manager.
- Basic office administration duties including answer the telephone and welcoming late arrivals.
- Unlocking and locking of buildings when required.
- Responding to and resetting of fire and intruder alarms.
- Responding to and dealing with first aid incidents.
- Main Key Holder and be the first point of contact in an emergency callout situation.
- Overall security of the premises including the locking of all windows, doors and gates.
- Ensuring the safety of all pilgrims during your shift.
- Clearing paths from leaves, snow and ice when required.
- Drawing the attention of the appropriate authorities, to any repairs or maintenance work, which is beyond the competence and responsibility of the Night Porter staff.
- General porterage duties.
- Replenishing, lighting and the removal of old candles within the Shrine Church each morning.
- Preparing the Holy Well for use each day.

14 hours per night comprising of 7pm to Midnight, on call from Midnight to 6am and then 6am to 9am

Meals - During the Pilgrimage Season (30th January to 6th December 2026) supper & breakfast will be provided free of charge on the days the post holder is on shift
