Experienced Domestic Staff – Cleaning / Laundry

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the care home (resident rooms, communal areas, kitchens, bathrooms)
- Deep clean and sanitise all areas in accordance with infection control and environmental health standards
- Use appropriate cleaning materials, equipment and techniques in line with health and safety regulations
- Empty waste and rubbish bins regularly; segregate clinical waste appropriately
- Manage laundry for the care home: washing, drying and distributing residents' personal clothing and bedding
- Maintain laundry equipment and report any faults or maintenance needs
- Respond to spills and contamination promptly to prevent infection and safety hazards
- Follow infection control protocols, including segregation of infected laundry and clinical waste
- Ensure all cleaning areas are left in a safe condition; follow COSHH regulations for chemical storage
- Participate in health and safety audits and report hazards or concerns
- Maintain records of cleaning schedules and any deep clean activities
- Communicate with care staff regarding any concerns or special cleaning requirements
- Support the care home in maintaining CQC standards for environmental cleanliness
- Participate in fire safety and health and safety training
- Use cleaning equipment safely and report maintenance needs
- Treat residents and staff respectfully and contribute to a positive care home culture
Person SpecificationEssential Criteria
- Experience in cleaning and laundry management in a healthcare or care setting
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high hygiene standards
- Understanding of infection control and health and safety principles
- Ability to use cleaning equipment and chemicals safely
- Reliable and punctual attendance
- Ability to work independently and follow instructions
- Good physical stamina and fitness
- Enhanced DBS clearance (no safeguarding concerns)
- Right to work in the UK
- Ability to work shifts, including evenings and weekends as required
Desirable Criteria
- Formal cleaning or hospitality qualifications
- Experience in NHS or regulated care environments
- Food hygiene awareness or Level 1 Food Hygiene certification
- Understanding of COSHH regulations
- Flexibility to work shifts as required
Terms and Conditions
This is a regulated care home. All staff are required to comply with Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014, CQC registration requirements, and all care home policies and procedures. An Enhanced DBS clearance is mandatory. All staff must engage in mandatory training and professional development.
